Rainbow Beigels are the latest food trend to reach us from across the pond. You’ll find them on London’s Brick Lane at Beigel Shop, a 24-hour bakery selling beigels since 1855.
The beigels at Beigel Shop are handmade hence the traditional spelling, rather than ‘bagel’, which suggests a uniform process was used to make it. To produce the multi-coloured effect, different coloured doughs are layered together and then baked.
The individually wrapped rainbow beigels differ in colour from traditional ones but not taste. The cost is only 50p for the beigel itself, so there’s no reason not to get one stuffed with salted beef or smoked salmon, cream cheese and squirt of lemon juice (our preference) for a magical-looking (and tasting) bite to eat. Our suggestion would be to get there early before they sell out!
