As the end of February crêpes up on us, Shrove Tuesday is just around the corner (this year 28th February), which means only one thing chez Season’s Eatings: pancakes!
This year, as well as our usual recipe, which of course we’ll be indulging and (re-)sharing with you, we’ve rounded up some of the more unusual pancake offerings across London. These include a fish pancake, a crepe with sweetcorn, Foie Gras and a port reduction, and of course a traditional Crêpe Suzette.
So in no particular order, are our top 6 peculiar pancakes available in London this month.
Holy crêpe! – New Street Grill
New Street Grill have ditched the banana and chocolate classic combos and brand new chef Lawrence Keogh has dived straight in with something infinitely more decadent , if a Sweetcorn with Foie Gras and Port reduction pancake at £18.50 won’t make you feel fulfilled this February, we’re not sure what will!
Under the sea – Fish Market
Dazzle your taste buds this Shrove Tuesday with the finest seafood pancakes at Fish Market. Totally unique, this is one pancake for the Pescatarians! Feast on a combination of sensational Seafood, Iced Grapes and Butter Sauce is not to be missed! Especially at just £15.50. It is sensational – sit back and savour a peculiar pancake this February.
A taste of the Black Forest – German Gymnasium
Hasn’t the Black Forrest Dessert has always been underrated and rarely over-eaten in the UK? German Gymnasium are shaking things up this Shrove Tuesday and serving guests a bountiful Bavarian version of the classic crepe. Gorge on a Black Forest and Chocolate pancake (or in German) Schwarzwälder Kirsch Pfannkuche. Priced at just £8, what a sweet way to end February!!
Nordic luxury – Aster
Aster, the hottest new Nordic restaurant to hit London are adding a touch of Scandi love to 2017’s Shrove Tuesday. Guests can feast on a perfect Nordic Potato Pancake for breakfast, using the best ingredients available they will be serving this delight with fresh Mushrooms a hens Egg and a rich Béarnaise sauce. This February come and hygge at Aster, the most exciting addition to Victoria’s restaurant scene .
A tropical touch – Avenue
The Americans love a good pancake, it’s no surprise then that Avenue in St James are taking it to tropical extremes this Shrove Tuesday. Think big-boy Banana Pancakes, Salted Caramel Ice Cream, Chocolate Fudge Sauce or zesty Passion Fruit Crêpe Soufflé with Vanilla sauce. Avenue – only inspired by the best of America!
Double Decadence – Le Pont de la Tour
Not only are Le Pont de la Tour providing their amazing French-inspired Crêpes Suzettes this Pancake Day, but they are offering a paired glass of Jurançon ‘La Magendia’ Lapeyre at just £15! Their crêpes will be served hot with a wonderful sauce of Sugar, Orange Juice and Grand Marnier liqueur poured over to flambé. So sit back and watch your crêpe cook right in front of you whilst sipping on some delicious dessert wine.
