Zespri® SunGold kiwifruit (otherwise known as the yellow kiwifruit) has recently launched in the UK for the summer season, so we got our hands on a few to see how it differs from the usual green, hairy kiwi we’re used to seeing on the supermarket shelves in the UK.
The first thing you notice is that the Zespri® SunGold kiwifruit is hairless and has a thinner skin than it’s hairy green relative. When you cut into the fruit, the juicy flesh is yellow – hence the name and the taste is sweeter (like honey) that a green kiwi with a citrus hint. Rich in Potassium and Vitamin C – three times the amount of that in an orange in fact, the yellow kiwifruit is perfect as a breakfast, in smoothies (with mango and orange) or as a part of a fruit salad.
As a healthy breakfast we ate homemade granola with Skyr yoghurt (mixed with honey) topped with pieces of SunGold kiwifruit.
For dessert, we equally enjoyed this seasonal Zespri® kiwifruit as is, or with yoghurt and chia seeds as a healthy dessert option.
However you want to enjoy yours, the Zespri® SunGold kiwifruit is available at major supermarkets including Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Asda and M&S between May and September 2016.
